Learning Objectives

  1. Establish the interrelationship of microbiome to other body systems
  2. Explore (at a very high level) what is known or yet to be discovered about the health implications of dysbiosis versus eubiosis
  3. Suggest actionable approaches implied by microbiome science

The Indiana Osteopathic Association is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians and designates this program for a maximum of 0.75 AOA Category 1-A credits and will report CME and specialty credits commensurate with the extent of the physician's participation in this activity.

Currently, Dr. Larsen is the Associate Dean for Biomedical Sciences at Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine (MUCOM) in Indianapolis, IN, where he has served since 2011. Dr. Larsen received his Ph.D. in microbiology from The University of Iowa in Iowa City, where he began a career-long fascination with infectious diseases encountered in obstetrics and gynecology. This interest led him to work in the areas of microbial flora and its implications for women’s’ health. Current research efforts are aimed at developing novel therapies for vaginal and urinary infections and exploring the quiescent persister phenotype among microorganisms of importance to gynecologic infectious diseases.

Dr. Larsen discloses that he has no relevant financial relationships with any organization producing, marketing, reselling or distributing health care goods or services consumed by, or used on, patients relative to the content of this presentation.
