Fundamental knowledge of the 12 lead ECG provides the foundation for ECG interpretation. In this seminar you will learn normal patterns and the reason for these patterns. These foundational building blocks will be the introduction needed to begin the journey from novice to expert in ECG interpretation. You will learn a systematic approach to 12 lead ECG evaluation that will make sense and provide you with a solid foundation on which to build your ECG skills. During this session you will begin to build a worksheet that you can us in clinical practice every day.

• The “anatomy” of each lead
• Identification of normal patterns
• Evidence based recommendations
• Systematic evaluation of the 12 lead
• Linking knowledge to the bedside monitor

OBJECTIVES

• Compare accuracy of lead placement to accuracy of ECG data.
• Identify the area of myocardium viewed by each lead on the 12 lead.
• Discuss sources of evidence to be applied to electrocardiography interpretation.
• Recognize normal patterns for each recorded lead.
• Apply knowledge about the 12 lead ECG to bedside cardiac monitoring.
